pyontan 0.5.5 Changelog

Big update because I decided to update the Japanese study area a lot, I've reviewed most things so there'll likely still be some small adjustments but there's a huge amount of content now added for it. I wanted to really hone in on learning and making sure you can actually learn content regardless of the stage you are at.

PS: Also sorry that my changelogs are inconsistent, I haven't figured out how exactly I wanna do them yet but I take a lot of time to write these so bear with me!

Additions:

App + Dashboard:

  • New Study sentences, 3 new kinds of exercises: Word Order, Build the sentence & Type the word
  • Timed exams, can choose 50 or 100 question tests of one level: vocab, grammar, particles, conjugation & new sentence exercises
  • A calendar of the days you studied, up to the last six months, with your streak and your best one too (new streak system yes ikr we love streaks, just look at Duolingo)
  • Listening exercises, Japanese read aloud at your level with options for reading speed. Four different question styles, go find out I'm too lazy to write it (as I actively write everything other update)
  • Themed vocabulary
  • A speaker button next to each word in a theme/vocab for reading aloud
  • Grammar up to N1 (most of the time people only really need grammar up to N3/N2 but I felt like throwing it in there regardless)
  • Grammar lessons now end by requiring you to build a sentence
  • Mock exam for each level on the JLPT exam (with a mixture of different types of questions)
  • Conversations, all are made up scenes where you are making up conversations basically
  • Games, 2 new games where you pick the reading of as many hiragana and/or katakana and match words against the clock and try to get the best time your own personal record time
  • A large of the Listening exercises have been switched to real native speaker voices, some still use AI, button for speed works regardless

Updated:

App:

  • Study window's Sidebar is grouped up now just like the dashboard

Dashboard:

  • Menu is grouped up based on related pages because it became a clusterfuck

App + Dashboard:

  • Lessons show one level at a time, opening on the first level you haven't finished
  • The placement test asks a grammar question at N2 and N1 too now
  • The TTS for words in lessons and vocab use Native Speakers, however sentences and exercises will generally use AI for speech
  • Themes are fuller but they are split into parts mostly based on the level of the vocab, averagely have about 12 words
  • Of the above post, other parts require higher tiers of subscription
  • Updated the pricing page cuz kinda forgor

Fixes:

App:

  • An add-on that needed updated was missing the Update tag and couldn't be updated, this exists due to Manga-OCR requiring Torch now so it can be updated
  • In a word breakdown, English meanings were being cut off

Dashboard:

  • Certain conjugations just came out wrong, this has been fixed
  • On phones with dark mode extensions, the website now flags dark mode so elements don't come out weird
